Barcoding

Developed commercially for inventory checking in the FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) market, barcode technology is still the most widely used today.

Barcodes deliver convenient, easy-to-use and cost-effective solutions to many applications. This has resulted in the use of barcodes becoming widespread, and the technology behind barcodes is continually improving.

From retail membership cards, to gift voucher cards, to entertainment tickets, to travel tickets, the tracking of parcels and even patient identification - barcodes can provide a fast, convenient method of payment and identification.

At our in-house full service bureau and fulfilment centre in the UK, CPS can print any of the barcodes that are in circulation today, and we can help to prevent fraud by adding blockers, which stop the barcode being readable by the human eye.

Benefits of barcode cards

  • Read only data cannot be easily modified
  • Low cost & effective solution with many applications
  • Fast and accurate data capture
  • Convenient, widespread and easy to use
  • Can be hidden from the human eye

A creative barcode solution to minimise costs (case study)

A University in the north of England had a requirement to produce new identity cards that were also compatible with its existing library barcode readers.

The University's library systems use the Telepen barcode system, however, the cards also needed additional information printed on the card which would not leave enough space for a standard Telepen barcode.

CPS took on the challenge and our software development team designed a bespoke barcode font to produce the barcode at half the size, saving vital space on the card while remaining compatible with the systems in place at the University.

The solution CPS implemented meant that the customer was able to achieve their objective of moving to a single, multi-purpose card rather than issuing all staff and students with a separate library card, as well as avoiding the need to replace existing card reading equipment and systems - minimising costs.
